New Delhi: 1 lakh people died in various road accidents in the year 2021. This includes people on bikes, bicycles and pedestrians. The number of people who died in road accidents in 2021 has increased by 42 percent compared to 2017, according to the statistics of the Ministry of Road Transport.
However, the number of deaths in cars, trucks and three-wheelers decreased by 31 per cent to 35,253 during this period.
Non-observance of safety measures is the main reason for the increase in the number of deaths in road accidents. Therefore, it is necessary for governments to pay extra attention to the safety of motorists.
Due to the increase in vehicle sales and road infrastructure, the number of accidents is increasing every year. The share of motorcycle, bicycle users and pedestrians in total fatalities has increased to 67 percent in 2021. In 2017, it was only 49.3 percent.
As far as pedestrians and cyclists are concerned, most of the casualties are due to lack of adequate infrastructure to enable them to travel safely.
