NASA has warned that another asteroid is heading towards Earth. Asteroid 2022 RQ, the largest asteroid in size, will make its closest approach to Earth, NASA said. It has been revealed that the distance between the Earth and the asteroid is about 3.7 million kilometers. NASA’s Planetary Defense Coordination Office (Planetary Defense Coordination Office) said that this asteroid, which is 84 feet wide, is currently traveling at a speed of 10 kilometers per second. First discovered on September 1 this year, 2022 RQ is coming close to Earth on Tuesday.
The farthest object from the Sun is 328 million kilometers and the closest is 110 million kilometers, NASA explained that 2022 RQ will take about 648 days to complete its journey around the Sun. The process researchers use to understand the trajectory of near-Earth objects (NEO) has made significant progress over the past few years. NASA has a system that has about 90 percent accuracy for objects 140 meters or larger.
According to Live Science.. Asteroid-like objects in the universe will be tracked with the help of NEOWISE project, an updated wide-field infrared survey explorer. It is remarkable that all the latest space missions around the planet have effectively detected NEOs within a certain distance.
2022 RQ is the fifth asteroid to pass Earth within two weeks. Three asteroids 2021 CQ5, 2022 QN5, 2022 QT7 passed close to Earth on September 1 alerting various space agencies around the world. Asteroid 2022 QN5 also came close to Earth that day. At the latest, the 2022 RQ asteroid is approaching.
