Yesterday, the chess team headed to the Hungarian capital, Budapest, via Dubai International Airport, to participate in the 45th World Chess Olympiad, which will continue until the 23rd of this month, with the participation of 190 countries.
The delegation, headed by Taryam Matar Taryam, President of the Federation, and accompanied by Abdul Karim Al Marzouqi, Secretary General of the Federation, includes 10 male and female players. The men’s team includes: Salem Abdulrahman, Omran Al Hosani, Ammar Al Sadrani, Ibrahim Sultan, and Ahmed Farid, accompanied by Armenian coach Vladimir Akopyan, and administrator Saud Al Marzouqi, head of the national teams committee. The women’s team includes: Rawda Al Serkal, Wafiya Darwish Al Maamari, Maryam Issa, Zainab Darwish, Anoud Issa, coach Walter Arancibia, and administrator Aisha Al Hosani. Taryam Matar is participating in the meetings of the International Federation’s General Assembly on the sidelines of the Olympics, in addition to the presence of a number of national administrative cadres at the event, including Sultan Ali Al Taher, Advisor to the Technical Committee at the International Federation, Mahdi Abdul Rahim, Advisor to the Referees Committee, and Saud Al Marzouqi, member of the Events Committee at the International Federation.
Referee Moza Al-Maamari is also participating in the events, in preparation for obtaining the title of international referee.
Taryam said in press statements: “The Board of Directors has set several goals that it seeks to achieve through participation, most notably obtaining one of the colored medals in the categories, and one of the table medals.
