Yesterday, the Chairman of the Sharjah Sports Council, Issa Hilal Al-Hazami, inaugurated the Alef Chess Championship, which is the largest chess tournament in the Arab world and the Middle East. It is organized by the Alef Group, specialized in real estate development, in cooperation with the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club. With the participation of more than 1,000 male and female players of different nationalities, along with their families, to compete for a total prize pool of more than 50,000 dirhams.
Sheikh Saud bin Abdulaziz Al Mualla, Vice President of the International Federation and President of the Arab Federation, President of the Sharjah Chess Club, CEO of the Alef Group, Issa Ataya, and members of the Board of Directors of the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club attended the event.
The first day of the festival’s activities was inaugurated with various chess tournaments that included a large group of great international masters, promising players and amateurs, in addition to employees of government departments and institutions in Sharjah, school and university students, junior club players and chess fans who visited the Al Mamsha area in Sharjah.
