Chandigarh: Congress rule is taking place in Punjab. The state is scheduled to hold legislative elections early next year. There is direct competition between the ruling Congress and the Shiromani Akali Dal. The Aam Aadmi Party and former chief minister Amarinder Singh-BJP alliance are also engaged in intense campaigning. All parties have launched a campaign focusing on farmers.
In this context Punjab Chief Minister Saranjit Singh Sunny told reporters in Chandigarh yesterday:
In Punjab, there are already 5.63 lakh farmers with Rs 4,610 crore Debt waiver Has been done. This was followed by small farmers owning up to 5 acres of land in Punjab receiving up to Rs 2 lakh Debt waiver will be done. 1,200 crore accordingly Agricultural credit Discount. 1.09 lakh farmers will benefit. Loans are waived within the next 10 days. All cases registered against farmers during protests against agricultural laws will be dismissed by the 31st. A memorial will be built on 5 acres in memory of the deceased farmers. Thus he said.
