The gathering of citizens at the 12th “Serbia against violence” protest began today around 8:00 p.m. in front of the Serbian Parliament, reports Anadolu.
The route of today’s protest was shortened due to the heat and is called the “media route” because it passes by media institutions, editorial offices of daily newspapers and the public media service.
The protest walk will move from the Parliament of Serbia, along Dečanska Street between the Regulatory Body for Electronic Media (REM) and Večernje Novosti, along Makedonska Street next to Politika and Radio Belgrade, Svetogorska Street and Takovska Street to Radio Television of Serbia (RTS).
At the protest, it was said that RTS is a public service and that it is only required to respect the laws and to report on protests and citizens’ laws.
Citizens dissatisfied with the security situation in Serbia after two mass murders at the beginning of May in which 19 people were killed, nine of whom were children of a Belgrade elementary school, are demanding institutional responsibility of parts of the state leadership.
The replacement of the Minister of Internal Affairs, Bratislava Gašić, who was recently voted in confidence by the Serbian Parliament due to this request by the citizens, is being sought.
The removal of the director of the Security-Information Agency, Aleksandar Vulin, who was recently put on the list of sanctions by the Ministry of Finance of the United States of America due to corruption, involvement in the drug trade and ties to Russia, is also being demanded.
The request is for the removal of members of the REM Council, as well as a change in the management of RTS, the cancellation of the national frequencies of the Pink and Happy television stations, as well as the shutdown of dailies that promote hatred and violence, as well as the cancellation of reality shows.
At the head of the protest column is, as always, a large “Serbia against violence” banner.
Apart from Belgrade, protests are taking place this week in about 30 other places in Serbia.
