On Wednesday, June 22, servicemen, cadets of higher military educational institutions and youth members lit 1,418 candles from a particle of the Eternal Flame, brought the day before from the Brest Fortress, as part of the All-Russian action “Candle of Memory” on Cathedral Square of the Main Temple of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
At 4:00 am Moscow time, servicemen placed candles with fire on special pedestals on Cathedral Square – one candle for each day of the Great Patriotic War.
It is also noted that on the night of June 22, in memory of the victims of the Great Patriotic War, a Divine Liturgy and a memorial service were held in the Main Church of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. The service was conducted by Priest Oleg Ovcharov, Archpriest of the Military and Naval Clergy, Chairman of the Synodal Department for Cooperation with the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and Law Enforcement Agencies.
According to the Ministry of Defense, a particle of the Eternal Flame, lit from the Eternal Flame at the Brest Fortress – Hero memorial complex, was brought to Moscow on Tuesday in a special gas lamp aboard the Defense Ministry aircraft. Then she was taken to the Main Temple of the RF Armed Forces.
To transport a particle of the Eternal Flame, Mosgaz developed a portable gas lamp and torches for transferring the flame to the memorial.
On the eve it was reported that a particle of the flame of the Eternal Flame from the memorial complex “Brest Fortress – Hero” was delivered to the Main Temple of the Armed Forces (AF) of the Russian Federation.
The memorial action “Candle of Memory” began in the temple on the Day of Memory and Sorrow, June 22. On this day, 81 years ago, Nazi Germany launched a war against the Soviet Union. So, at 04:00 Moscow time, in the Main Temple of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, a tribute was paid to the memory of all those who died during the Second World War.
Also at 02:30, the Divine Liturgy began in the Main Church of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. The clergy held a memorial service for the dead. From 09:00 near the temple, the concert program “I Remember” will begin. It will last all day at the monument to the “Mothers of the Winners”. On June 22, rallies at the Eternal Flame and monuments to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War will be held in all regions of Russia. In addition, at 12:15 Moscow time, an all-Russian minute of silence was announced throughout the country.
