Kanpur. A 150 year old bridge in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, got submerged in the Ganga. Traffic on the bridge built during the British era was closed for four years. It is fortunate that there was no loss of life or property. It was told that the bridge at the end going towards Kanpur was dilapidated. Part of the bridge broke and fell into the Ganga river.
In fact, the part of the old Ganga bridge connecting Kanpur to Unnao via Shuklaganj, connected to Kothi on the Kanpur side, collapsed on Tuesday morning. In view of the current dilapidated condition, traffic was banned about 2 years ago. There was talk of preserving the bridge, but no decision has been taken yet on whether it will be demolished or preserved.
This bridge of the British era has been quite popular. In this, a path was made below for the pedestrians to walk while the vehicles used to run above it. Many famous films have been shot on this bridge. Kanpur (Kanpur) Kankaiya – Mother Ganga flowing below, this famous line was said about this bridge. Towards the Kanpur end, the part between Kothi numbers 9 and 10 of the old Ganga bridge fell into the Ganga river early in the morning.
When the people who had come to take bath in the Ganga saw part of the fallen bridge, there was chaos. No official from any department has reached the spot yet. Let us tell you that the traffic bridge, built in 1875 during the British era, was closed for traffic after being declared dilapidated at 12:06 am on April 5, 2021, after running for 146 years. This bridge was two storeyed. Pedestrians and cyclists used to walk below, while cars used to run above.
