San Francisco. The first edition of the iPhone, the fully packed 4GB model has sold for $1,90,372.80 (over Rs 1.5 crore) at an auction in the US.
The original price of this phone at the time of launch was $599. Auction managers expected it to sell for between $50,000 and $100,000, but it broke all previous records.
The original iPhone 7 lot, run by LCG Auctions, received a total of 28 bids and sold for nearly 400 times its original asking price, reports the BBC.
The 4GB model of the iPhone was first released in 2007 by late Apple CEO Steve Jobs. But due to sluggish sales, the company decided to discontinue it just two months after its launch.
Jobs gave the keynote address at Macworld 2007 and unveiled the Apple iPhone. This revolutionary device was very expensive – the base 4GB model cost $500, with the 8GB one costing $600.
Most people bought the 8GB model.
