The UAE launched the first Gulf Youth Games with a bountiful harvest of 18 colorful medals, including four golds, in Taekwondo, whose competitions were held at the Zayed Sports Complex in Fujairah. The UAE is hosting the first Gulf Games of its kind, which started the day before yesterday and will continue until the second of next May, under the slogan “Our Gulf is One – Promising Youth” in 24 games, with the participation of more than 3,500 male and female athletes.
The Taekwondo competitions were opened, in which 124 male and female players participated, in the presence of Dr. Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, President of the Emirates Taekwondo Federation, and a number of heads of Gulf federations. On the first day, 70 fights were held across 10 weights for the male and female categories.
The UAE won medals (four gold, 11 silver, and three bronze), compared to 16 medals for Kuwait (seven gold, two silver, and seven bronze), nine medals for Saudi Arabia (three gold, four silver, and two bronze), and five medals for Oman (four gold, one silver).
Emirates gold medals were won at the junior women’s level: Maitha Rashid in the under 44 kg weight, Marwa Zuhair in the under 47 kg weight, Sharifa Ismail in the under 55 kg weight, and in the junior category: Nasser Al Muhairi in the under 49 kg weight.
Today, the Gulf Games competitions continue in five games, including the sailing competition, which is held at the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, in addition to the chess competitions in the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club hall, through “rapid chess” for teams, and is held over two days in the under-14 and 18-year-old categories.
The competitions begin in the evening, followed by the crowning of the winners, while the blitz chess competition for teams will be held the day after tomorrow, and conclude on the same day, then the individual blitz chess championship on Sunday, after which the blitz chess competition for individuals will be held next Monday and Tuesday.
Today, the athletics championship competitions held at the Dubai Police Officers Club track and field continue. The UAE national team players announced their readiness to take on the second day’s challenge.
Mansour Bu Oseiba, President of the Emirates Cycling Federation, stressed the importance of the Gulf Youth Games in discovering talent and preparing future champions, praising the idea of holding the tournament targeting promising young athletes, as it contributes to developing their skills and gives them an opportunity to interact and gain experience.
He pointed out in a press statement that the junior and youth teams are fully prepared to compete for the first places in the tournament, and said: “The Gulf Games are at the top of our priorities in the current period, and we look forward to achieving honorable results that reflect what cycling sports have achieved at the Arab and continental levels.”

Jiu-Jitsu fights are being held today in 11 weight divisions
Jiu-jitsu competitions are held at the Gulf Games with the participation of five Gulf countries: the Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait. The fights will take place for one day at the Mubadala Arena in Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi, and include 11 weight divisions in the under-16 and under-18 categories for youth.
The UAE national team is represented by 22 players in all weights, with two players in each weight, while the participation of the other four countries varies, as Bahrain participates in two weights, as well as Kuwait, while Saudi Arabia and Qatar participate in more than two weights in the under-16 and under-18 categories. It is expected that UAE male and female players will win most of the medals due to their extensive experience in the game.
85 players from 5 countries compete in the “Forces of People of Determination”
The athletics competitions for people of determination begin today, with a hammer toss competition. The tournament will be held at the Dubai Police Officers Club, with the participation of 85 male and female players representing five countries. The competitions are held over two days, and include track and field competitions in various categories.
