Raipur, A major accident took place in Kawardha district of Chhattisgarh on Monday. 19 people died when a pickup vehicle loaded with laborers fell into a ditch in Kukdur police station area here. The dead include 18 women and one man. All these laborers were returning after plucking tendu leaves.
More than 7 people are said to be injured in the accident. The bodies of 19 people who lost their lives in the accident were cremated on Tuesday morning. 17 people were cremated together. At the same time, the bodies of two women were cremated at their in-laws’ house. Let us tell you that in the morning, when the funeral procession of 17 laborers left Semraha village together, the entire village was shocked. The villagers bid last farewell to the dead with tearful eyes.
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma also attended the funeral. The President, Prime Minister Modi, Chief Minister of the state and other leaders have expressed deep grief over this accident. It is noteworthy that 19 people of the President’s adopted Baiga tribe died tragically in a pickup accident that took place on Monday afternoon in Bahpani of Kukdur police station area of Kawardha district. 12 people saved their lives by jumping from the pickup. All the deceased were residents of Semraha village, who had gone to the forest in a pickup to pluck tendu leaves. There are many people who belonged to the same family.
Eyewitnesses say that the speed of the pickup vehicle was high at the time of the accident and the accident occurred due to the vehicle going out of control. The driver told the police that the brakes of the vehicle had failed. At the time of the accident, the vehicle was passing between Neur and Rukmidadar. The incident site falls in a remote forest and hilly area. The driver lost control on the new road near the turn in Banjari Valley and fell straight onto the old road.
