New Delhi: A pilot was killed in a mid-air collision between 2 Indian Air Force fighter jets. 2 pilots survived with the help of parachute. They fell on trees and were rescued with serious injuries.
The Indian Air Force base is located at Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh. From there, the Mirage-2000 fighter jet and the Sukhoi-30 fighter jet took off yesterday morning for routine training. The Mirage aircraft had one pilot and the Sukhoi aircraft had 2 pilots.
The 2 fighter jets were flying side by side in the same direction when they unexpectedly collided in Muraina area near Gwalior. The Mirage aircraft caught fire. A wing of the Sukhoi aircraft was damaged.
The Mirage plane caught fire and crashed in a forest area near Baghargarh village in Muraina district. The pilot, Hanumant Rao, who was piloting the plane, was charred to death. The broken parts of the fighter jet were scattered at about 3 places in the area.
The 2 pilots of the Sukhoi plane, whose wing was damaged in the collision, parachuted out. Both fell on trees in Baghargarh forest and got injured. The surrounding villagers rescued them safely.
An unmanned Sukhoi fighter jet, 100 km from there. It flew to a distance and crashed in Bingora Forest, Bharatpur District, Rajasthan.
There are many cities and villages that are crowded with people to navigate. A major mishap was avoided as the Sukhoi crashed in the forest rather than in the areas.
In this regard, the Indian Air Force posted on Twitter, ‘2 training aircraft have met with an accident near Gwalior. A high-level inquiry has been ordered into the cause of the accident.
Regarding the accident, Chief of the Tri-Services Anil Chauhan, Air Force Commander V.R. Chaudhary has given a detailed explanation to Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.
15 villagers from the surrounding area, including Baghargarh, rushed to the crash site and extinguished the fire. When they said, “There was a terrible sound as the fighter planes took off in the sky. A fighter jet plummeted towards the ground in flames. It is about 4 kms from Baghargarh village. The fighter jet crashed in a distant forest. A pilot’s body was recovered from the crash site.
Muraina District Collector Ankit Asthana said, “Parts of the Mirage aircraft were scattered about 800 meters away.”
The Sukhoi aircraft crashed in Bingora forest, Bharatpur district, Rajasthan. Bharatpur District Collector Alok Rajan said, “The police led by SP Shyam Singh, the fire brigade personnel are engaged in rescue operations at the crash site of the fighter plane.”
