The Assistant Secretary-General of the Dubai Sports Council, Nasser Aman Al Rahma, revealed that 2,000 competitors will participate in the 13th edition of the “Spence Dubai Challenge 92” cycling race, which will be held on February 19.
Al Rahma said during a press conference held yesterday, in the presence of the President of the UAE Cycling Federation, Mansour Bouassiba, the General Manager of Marketing for the Spence Group, Warwick Gerd, and the head of the Spence Dubai 92 Cycling Challenge, Stuart Howison, that the “Spence Dubai 92 Challenge” race has become one of the most important International Gran Fondo races that are held in 22 cities around the world, most notably Dubai, and 20% of the participants in 11 age groups qualify from the Spence Dubai race to the world final, the largest of its kind in the world, which will be held this year in Glasgow, Scotland, next August. It brings together qualifiers from 13 international championships from different continents of the world, the most important of which is the “Spinneys Dubai Challenge 92”.
Al Rahma added that cycling in the UAE in general, and in Dubai in particular, occupies a distinguished position and enjoys the support and care of the wise leadership, as Dubai includes tracks and tracks designed according to the best international standards, and Dubai annually hosts many local and international competitive and various community championships. We are sure that this version will be distinguished and more successful, as the riders will pass through the most famous and beautiful tourist and cultural sites in Dubai, among them (Expo City), which brought together more than 190 countries during the activities of “Expo Dubai 2020”, and was visited by more than 24 million people.
For his part, Mansour Bouassiba stressed that this event was born big, and everyone follows the successive developments in the number of participants and categories.
He said, “This race is distinguished by the fact that 20% qualify for the World Championships in Glasgow, which gives an indication of the strength of the expected competitions for the tour.”
During the press conference, the race track, which extends for a distance of 95.4 km, starting from the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai Sports City, was reviewed during the press conference, during which the riders pass through the most prominent and famous tourist attractions in Dubai, including Jumeirah Lakes Towers, Jumeirah Golf Estate, Dubai Expo City, and Global Village.
The financial prizes for the race, which will amount to 36 thousand dirhams, were presented by the Spinneys Dubai 92 Bicycle Challenge, as the winners, for the men and women categories, will receive 10 thousand dirhams each, while the second place holders will receive 5000 dirhams each, and 3000 dirhams each.
