New Delhi: On the occasion of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s birth anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has named 21 islands of Andaman and Nicobar after ‘Paramveer Chakra’ awardees.
In 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that freedom struggle leader Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s birthday will be celebrated as Valor Day. Accordingly, Netaji’s 126th birthday was celebrated as Parakrama Day yesterday.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi named the 21 unnamed islands in Andaman-Nicobar as ‘Paramveer Chakra’ awardees. According to these islands, Jadunath Singh, Ram Ragoba Rane, Karam Singh, Somnath Sharma, Joginder Singh, Tansingh Thapa, Gurbachan Singh, Prusingh, Albert, Arthisir, Abdul Hameed, Shidan Singh, Ramasamy Parameswaran, Nirmaljit Singh, Arun, Hoshiar Singh, Manoj Pandey. , Vikram Patra, Bana Singh, Yogendra Singh, Sanjay Kumar were named.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the naming ceremony held in Andaman’s capital Port Blair via video. He said:
21 islands of Andaman and Nicobar are named after ‘Paramveer Chakra’ awardees. A new history is thus being written.
Memorial to Netaji: In the Andaman Islands, where Netaji lived, a memorial is being erected to commemorate his life and contribution. The foundation stone has already been laid.
Andaman is where our tricolor flag was hoisted for the first time in the country. Today the national flag flies majestically where Netaji hoisted the tricolor here. Countless heroes like Veera Savarkar suffered imprisonment on this soil for the country. But instead of this heroic history, the names of the Andaman Islands bore the stamp of slavery.
We decided to change that. 4 years ago we gave Indian names to 3 major islands. Accordingly Ras Island is now known as Netaji Subash Chandra Bose Island. A huge memorial to Netaji is going to be built on this island.
In 2019, the Netaji Museum was opened in Delhi’s Red Fort. A colossal statue of Netaji has been erected on Delhi Duty Road.
Netaji should have been given due respect when the country became independent. But, after a long delay, the present central government is honoring him.
Currently, we have named 21 islands of Andaman after ‘Paramveer Chakra’ awardees. Those players from different states have different language and lifestyle. However, their unwavering patriotism towards the motherland united them. They devoted their lives to the country with one goal, one path, one ambition. By naming the Andaman Islands after them, the sentiment of ‘One India, the best India’ prevails.
In the previous regime, Andaman and North Eastern states were neglected. Under BJP rule, importance is given to the development of all parts of the country. In particular, the tourism sector of Andaman is given a lot of boost. Steps are being taken to provide high speed internet facility to Andaman through optical fiber. Like other parts of the country, Andaman is also developing rapidly. At this time, let us commit to building a new India that will touch the pinnacle of development. The Prime Minister spoke thus.
The function held in Port Blair was attended by Union Minister Amit Shah and others. When Amit Shah spoke, “India has the honor of being the first country to name islands after soldiers. Thousands of freedom fighters were imprisoned and tortured in Andaman’s Cellular Jail. The country remembers that,” he said.
In a post on Twitter yesterday, PM Modi said, ‘On this day of valor, I pay tribute to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and remember his unparalleled contribution to the history of India. He is remembered by all for his fierce resistance against the colonial rule. We must work to fulfill his vision for India” he said.
