Piyush Jain hails from Kannauj in Uttar Pradesh. He manufactures and sells perfumes under the name Autochem Industries. He has offices in various cities including Kanpur, Mumbai, Gujarat and Dubai.
Complaints arose that Piyush Jain, a close associate of Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, had evaded GST and income tax. In this connection, the Income Tax Department officials and the GST Investigation Department (DGGI) officials conducted simultaneous raids on the houses and offices owned by Piyush Jain on the 22nd.
The money was confiscated from his ancestral home in Kannoj, Kanpur. 177 crore in Kanpur house and Rs. 107 crore in Kannoj house and Rs. 284 crore have been seized so far. 25 kg of gold jewelery and 250 kg of silver were seized. Property documents worth Rs 400 crore have also been seized.
