New Delhi: The central government has informed that 30 lakh Indians have gone abroad for higher education in the last 6 years.
United Janata Dal Party MP Union Minister of State for Education, Subhash Sarkar, in his written reply to a question raised by Rajiv Ranjan Singh in the Lok Sabha said:
The Immigration Department under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs manages the details of Indians going abroad and returning from abroad.
According to this, between 2017 and 2022, more than 30 lakh Indians have gone abroad for higher education. This information is collected based on the information given orally by the expatriate and the type of visa issued.
7.5 lakh people who went abroad last year said they were going for higher education. Similarly, 4.4 lakh in 2021, 2.59 lakh in 2020, 5.8 lakh in 2019, 5.1 lakh in 2018 and 4.5 lakh in 2017 have reported going abroad for higher education.
