The Delma Race for 60-foot sailboats, which is held as part of the activities of the historic Dalma Festival in its seventh edition, begins this morning, with the participation of 122 sailboats with more than 3,000 sailors and sailors on board. The distance of the race, organized by the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club and the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, is 68 nautical miles (about 125 km), and prizes amounting to 30 million dirhams are allocated to those who place from first to 120th. This is the highest value of prizes in the history of marine heritage races.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, stressed that the wise leadership is keen to support and sponsor heritage events and activities in all fields, and marine in particular, to consolidate the meanings of this heritage, so that generations can draw lessons from it and be guided by concepts. It connects the past to the present, and keeps pace with the cultural development of the country.
The race route passes through the islands of Sir Bani Yas, Ghasha, Umm al-Kurturm, Al-Fatayir, Al-Bazm, Al-Fayai, and Marawah, arriving at Janana Island, before landing on the beach of the city of Al-Mughira, to highlight its tourist attractions, which are rich in natural beauty.
