The organizing committee for the 24th edition of the Dubai International Marathon, which begins the day after tomorrow, revealed the value of the financial prizes for the main race, in which the elite international male and female athletes participate, who have officially confirmed their attendance to participate in this annual event, which is organized by the Dubai Sports Council.
The total prize money allocated for the main race this year is $312,000, in addition to the other prize money allocated for the 10 km and four km races, with expectations of 20,000 male and female runners participating in the three races.
The winner of the main race for the men’s and women’s categories will receive $80,000 each, while the runner-up in the two races will receive $40,000, and the third in each race will receive $20,000.
The financial prizes vary up to 10th place, as the fourth-place finishers receive $10,000, $5,000 for the fifth-place finisher, $4,000 for the sixth-place finisher, $3,000 for the seventh-place finisher, $2,500 for the eighth-place finisher, $2,000 for the ninth-place finisher, and $1,500 for the ninth-place finisher. The General Coordinator of the Dubai Marathon, Counselor Ahmed Al Kamali, confirmed that the Dubai Marathon enjoys an advanced position among international races, thanks to the efforts made since the launch of the Dubai Marathon for the first time in 2000.
He told Emirates Today: “The marathon confirmed Dubai’s commitment to the concept of sports by expanding its accompanying events, such as children’s races, amateur running, and family races, so that the event becomes a comprehensive platform that encourages various segments of society to participate in sports.”
He added: “Since its inception, the marathon has witnessed exceptional growth, both in terms of the number of participants, as well as the quality of performance, results achieved, and its financial prizes, as contestants came from more than 150 nationalities, in a step that confirms that Dubai is an attractive environment for all countries of the world.”
He continued: “The marathon also succeeded in attracting thousands of visitors annually to Dubai, which had a positive impact on the tourism sector and contributed to promoting the city and highlighting it as a global sports destination that reflects the modern lifestyle, which combines sports and luxury.”
He explained: “On the technical level, the marathon contributed – in more than one edition – to qualifying runners for the Olympic Games by achieving the required numbers in its competitions, the most recent of which was the last edition, which witnessed the achievement of 24 qualifying numbers for the last Olympic Games in Paris 2024.”
