Desk. There is confusion among the people regarding the date of Diwali 2024. There is a tradition of celebrating Diwali on the Amavasya date of Kartik month. Some people are saying that Diwali will be celebrated on 31st October while some say that Diwali will be celebrated on 1st November. According to the scriptures, Diwali should be celebrated only when Amavasya Tithi occurs in Pradosh period and Maharatri (Nishith period).
Diwali is celebrated in Pradoshvyapini Amavasya. Udaya Tithi has nothing to do with this. Amavasya starts with sunset on 31st October and Pradosh Kaal ends till 6:16 pm on 1st November. Therefore, the date of Amavasya will be considered as 31st October. According to the calculations of the Panchang, the festival of Diwali is celebrated every year on the Amavasya date of Kartik month. Shri Ram returned after 14 years of exile on the night of Amavasya.
In Hindu religion, festivals are celebrated according to dates. Udaya Tithi means that the date at the time of sunrise is considered to be the same date. Due to this, some people argue that Udaya Tithi is falling on 1st November, hence Diwali will be celebrated on 1st November, but on the day of Kartik Amavasya, Lakshmi Puja is done between Pradosh Kaal and midnight on Diwali and Kartik Amavasya is falling at night on 31st October.
It is more auspicious to celebrate Lakshmi Puja and Diwali on Kartik Amavasya at midnight of Pradosh Kaal. This is the reason why they are advising to celebrate Diwali on 31st October. On Diwali, Pradosh Kaal will be from 5.36 pm to 8.11 pm on 31st October. Vrishabha Lagan will be from 6.25 pm to 8.20 pm. Whereas for Tantra Sadhana, the auspicious time of worship in Nishith Kala will be from 11.39 am to 12.31 pm.
