Ahmedabad: The 36th National Games are being held in 6 cities in Gujarat. Haryana’s Ramita and Arshdeep Singh won the gold medal in the 10m air rifle mixed team finals yesterday, defeating Madhya Pradesh’s Shreya Agarwal and Aishwari Pratap Singh Tomar by 17-9. Tamil Nadu’s Narmada Nithin and Sri Karthik Sabari Raj won the bronze medal by defeating Punjab’s Samik Shah Dhingra and Arjun Babuta 16-12.
Uttar Pradesh’s Abhishek Paul clocked 16:34.68 seconds to win the men’s 5,000m gold medal. Services team’s Karthik Kumar (14:08.24) bagged silver and Chavan Parwal (14:10.53) bagged bronze.
Uttar Pradesh’s Parul Chowdhury won gold in the women’s 5,000m race in 16:34.68 seconds. Himachal Pradesh’s Seema (16:36.18) bagged silver and Maharashtra’s Sanjivani Jadhav (16:39.97) bronze.
In men’s weightlifting, Subhash Lahre of Services won gold in the 67 kg weight category with a lift of 275 kg (121 154). Andhra’s Neelam Raju (270 kg) won the silver medal and Odisha’s Sushant Sahu (270 kg) won the bronze medal.
Andhra Pradesh’s Jyoti Yarraji won gold in the women’s 100m race in 11:51 seconds. Tamil Nadu’s Archana Saseendran reached the target in 11:55 seconds and bagged the silver medal. Dyandra of Maharashtra clocked 11:62 seconds to clinch the bronze medal.
In the men’s 100m race, Assam’s Amlan Borgohain clocked 10:38 seconds to win the gold. Tamil Nadu’s Liritadasan finished the race in 10:44 seconds and bagged the silver medal. Another Tamil Nadu player, Sivakumar (10:48 seconds) bagged the bronze medal.
In the men’s 400m race, Mohammad Ajmal of Services won gold with a national sports record time of 46.29 seconds. Tamil Nadu’s Rajesh Ramesh (46.45 seconds) won silver and Delhi’s Amoj Jacob (46.62 seconds) bronze.
Tamil Nadu’s Jeswin Aldrin won gold in men’s long jump with a national sports record of 8.26m. Earlier in 2015, the record was held by Ankit Sharma who cleared 8.04 meters. Sreesankar (7.93) from Kerala bagged the silver medal and Mohammad Aneesh Yahia (7.92) bagged the bronze medal.
In the men’s shot put, Services team’s Tajinder Singh Door won gold with a throw of 20.75m, a National Games record. Punjab’s Karanveer Singh (19.17) bagged the silver and Haryana’s Inderjeet Singh (18.64) bagged the bronze.
In the 4x100m relay, the Tamil Nadu team consisting of Katiravan, Litharadhasan, Jayakumar and Sivakumar won the gold medal by covering the distance in 40.01 seconds. Kerala team (40.45) won the silver medal and Maharashtra team (40.67) won the bronze medal.
Tamil Nadu’s Rosie Meena Balraj won gold in the women’s pole vault with a national sports record of 4.20m. Earlier in 2014, Surekha had cleared the height of 4.15 meters. Other athletes from Tamil Nadu, Pavitha Venkatesh (4.00m) won the silver medal and Paranika Ilangovan (3.90m) won the bronze medal.
In the women’s 4x100m relay, the Kerala team won gold by reaching the target in 45.52 seconds. Tamil Nadu team (45.54) won the silver medal and Madhya Pradesh (46.03) won the bronze medal.
N. Ajith of Tamil Nadu won the gold in men’s weightlifting by lifting 315 kg (141 174) in the 73 kg category. West Bengal’s Achinda Shuli lifted 295 kg (130 165) and won silver medal while Kerala’s Devapreethan lifted 290 kg (125 165) and bronze medal. Tamil Nadu defeated Punjab by 45-38 in saber team category.
