The baby’s head may be lower into your pelvis. Moreover, the body is tightly coiled at this stage. If the baby is in the breech position (rump down), the doctor will at some point try to turn the baby by applying strong pressure on the abdomen. If this does not go well, the doctor will explain more about the possibility of cesarean delivery. That little body was growing so far that it could more easily adapt to life outside the womb. The liver, lungs, and brain are also still developing.
The size of the baby
At 40 weeks, the baby will be the size of a pumpkin. Babies weigh an average of six to nine pounds at birth. Length is about 18 to 20 inches. This is just an average.
The mother must have made many sacrifices for this baby during the last nine months. Childbirth can take place in two ways. One is a normal delivery and the other is a c-section or operation.
Mothers go through three stages if they have a smooth or normal delivery. The first stage has two stages called early as well as active labor. In the first stage, the cervix stretches and thins and begins to open. At this stage the pain starts in the back and moves towards the abdomen. It is during this pain that the baby moves down.
Labor is different for every pregnant woman. Some mothers are in the early stages for 14 to 20 hours, which is when the cervix is about 6 centimeters dilated. Labor can last from four to eight hours. Staying at home is common in the early stages of labor. The doctor will give clear advice on when to go to the hospital. It is very important to try to notice the early signs of labor.
Try to relax during that time. Walking, listening to favorite music, or anything learned in childbirth class can be followed.
The cervix is fully dilated (10 cm), the second stage of labor. It is at this time that the baby can be pushed out. This stage is usually a little faster (lasting an average of half an hour to three hours) but is physically more demanding and painful than the first stage of labor.
After delivering the baby, the third and final stage of labor is reached. This is when you deliver the placenta. You may still feel contractions as the placenta separates from the uterus, but this stage is usually quicker and less difficult than delivering your baby.
Cesarean or C section
C section or caesarean section is required for those who do not deliver normally. In caesarean section, the baby is taken out through surgery after giving anesthesia. Those with problems like diabetes and BP are slightly more likely to have a caesarean section.
Symptoms at 40 weeks
snoring – During pregnancy, most mothers experience many changes in their bodies. Pregnant women often face difficulty in breathing. Women are more likely to snore during this time than usual. The main reason for this is the change in hormones. It also causes dryness in the nose.
Mucus plug – A mucus plug keeps the cervix closed to prevent germs from entering the uterus. The membrane may rupture during labor or a few days or weeks before. Sometimes it is unlikely that it will break. It can look like pinkish, bloody or clear discharge.
pain – Pain during pregnancy is normal. But one should watch out for the pains that occur near the due date. Labor pains are pains that occur at regular intervals. If the pain does not go away even after taking a short walk or rest, it can be said to be normal labor pain.
Water break – If the mucus breaks and water comes out, you should immediately go to the hospital for the help of a doctor. The amniotic fluid that the baby sleeps in during pregnancy comes out when the water breaks. Water comes out during labor pains.
