Kolkata. Around 50 doctors of RG Kar Medical College and hospital resigned. The doctors have resigned in solidarity with the doctors who are on fast unto death demanding justice for the rape victim. These senior doctors took this decision in a meeting of heads of various departments of the hospital.
Sources in the health facility said that the decision to resign en masse was taken in a meeting of heads of various departments of the government hospital on Tuesday morning. A senior doctor said, “This decision has been taken in the meeting of department heads today. All 50 senior doctors of our hospital have signed their resignation letters. This is to express our solidarity towards the young doctors who are fighting for a cause.
He further said that senior doctors of NRS Medical College and Hospital are also considering following the footsteps of their colleagues at RG Kar Medical College. Joint Forum of Doctors West Bengal pledges solidarity with junior doctors who are demanding justice for the rape and murder of a female doctor of R G Kar Hospital and an end to the corruption-ridden healthcare system .
Junior doctors are on hunger strike for the last four days for their demands. They are adamant on 9 demands including the removal of Health Secretary NS Nigam. Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has announced its support to junior doctors of West Bengal. FAIMA said that on October 9, doctors will go on hunger strike across the country.
