Palghar. A big news is coming from Palghar district of Maharashtra. At least 50 students of ashram schools here fell ill after eating poisonous food. It is being told that in about 10 ashram schools in Dahanu taluka of Palghar district, poison was mixed in the food of the students, after eating which they fell ill. After this they have been admitted to the hospital.
Actually, Ashram Vidyalayas are residential schools for tribal students. Palghar resident Deputy Collector Subhash Bhagade has given information about this matter. He said that more than 50 students of various Ashram schools built under the Dahanu project of Integrated Tribal Development Project (ITDP) complained of nausea, vomiting and dizziness a few hours after eating poisonous food; after which they have been admitted to various health facilities in the district.

The cause of food poisoning is being investigated. The students admitted to hospitals are undergoing treatment. Officials said the affected schools are located in Dahanu, Palghar, Talasari and Vasai talukas of the district. Around 3 am on Tuesday, 28 girl students of the schools fell ill and were taken to nearby health centers, where they are undergoing treatment.
Dr Satyam Gandhi, project officer of ITDP in Dahanu, said that none of the admitted students are serious. Food is supplied to these ashram schools from the central kitchen in Palghar and food samples have been collected for analysis after the incident. District Collector Govind Bodke along with the health department and other officials are visiting the hospitals in Dahanu and Talasari talukas where the students have been admitted.
