Ukrainian law enforcement officers exposed three representatives of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, who, when purchasing military ammunition for the army, illegally appropriated funds from the military department in the amount of $580,000. This was announced on August 30 by the National Police of Ukraine.
“Representatives of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine seized funds in the amount of $580,000. They were informed of a suspicion under the article “fraud,” the press service of the national police said in the Telegram channel.
It is noted that among the suspects, including the current lawyer of the Ministry of Defense of the country. All three men signed an agreement between the department and a supplier of military ammunition from Turkey for € 16 million. To seize the funds, they convinced the management of the Turkish company to conclude an agreement with a “controlled company” for the purchase of 1 thousand military ballistic vests of IV level of protection for their urgent delivery for needs Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
The suspects are also co-founders of a Bahraini company, where they credited $580,000. During the searches, in addition to documents, law enforcement officers seized over 17 million hryvnias ($460,000) and €100,000 from them.
On August 16, the head of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Igor Kostyukov, said that the United States had already allocated $4 billion to Ukraine for weapons and planned to transfer another $4.5 billion. He noted that the weapons received by Kyiv are stolen and end up on the black market, where they can fall into the hands of terrorists .
