Gangtok: 6 killed in avalanche in Sikkim About 50 people are reported missing.
Sikkim has the Nathula mountain ranges which are the major tourist attractions. It is said that these areas along the Chinese border will experience heavy snowfall in the month of March. Thus, J.N. who goes to Natula. Tourists are usually restricted on the road. Accordingly, the government has imposed a ban on going beyond the 13th mile of this road.
However, many of the tourists defied the ban and went up to the 15th mile. In this, many of them are trapped in an avalanche. Around 80 people were trapped in the avalanche and the army, police department and local people are involved in their rescue. Since then, around 30 people have been rescued. Many of them have been admitted to nearby hospitals due to their health condition.
6 tourists have been recovered dead. Out of these, 4 are men, 1 is a woman and 1 is a child. At least 50 tourists may be trapped in the avalanche, according to rescue officials. It is not yet known what happened to them. Rescue operations are ongoing.
