What you need to know:
Ernestina Godoy is yet to know if her ratification will occur, but she is dogged by some controversies during her administration, such as the recent accusation of espionage against politicians.
As some may know, the decision on the ratification of Ernestina Godoy as head of the Attorney General’s Office of CDMX.
And taking advantage, here we leave a review of how his management has been and the six scandals that have occurred in recent times under his command.
Scandals of Ernestina Godoy in the CDMX Prosecutor’s Office
Ernestina Godoy has been doing her little fight to secure her position… I mean, to analyze whether it is ratified or not in the CDMX Prosecutor’s Officebut the thing is not that easy: Several scandals have occurred during his administration ranging from espionage to impunity.
Here are some of them:
1- Pachanga of the CDMX Prosecutor’s Office… with public resources
It was in May 2023 that some images of an alleged party that Ernestina Godoy had thrown on a terrace in the Historic Center of CDMX. And well, there is no problem with having a party like anyone else, but there is They will accuse her of doing it with public resources and during office hours.
This was one of the reasons why PAN politicians asked not to ratify it in office, such as the now candidate for the governorship of CDMX, Santiago Taboada (the one accused in the Real Estate Cartel case): “How many crimes happened in CDMX and will go unpunished, while Ernestina Godoy and her prosecutors took care of this party during working hours?”.
According to the reporter known as C4 Jiménez, who spread the photos of the party online, this event was organized by the prosecutor along with other officials of the Mexico City government, during working hours and, presumably, with resources from the capital’s Prosecutor’s Office.
Yes, something that was repeated by local deputy Héctor Saúl Téllez, who assured that for this party, agency personnel were usedas well as official vehicles and even public resources.
Although Ernestina Godoy did not come out to answer anything about this scandal, the CDMX Prosecutor’s Office did defend itself with a press release in which, obviously, They assured that none of this was true.
Yes, the capital’s justice department said that the pachanga did not affect the prosecutor’s work. and that it had not been carried out with public resources.
With this the party was shelved and nothing more was said about it.
2- “There is no fabrication of culprits or crimes.”
In mid-2022, after the acquittal of Laura Morán and Alejandra Cuevas in the case of Alejandro Gertz Manero’s brother, some members of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation They accused the CDMX Prosecutor’s Office of fabricating alleged criminal conduct.
As on other occasions, the capital agency distinguished itself and stated the following: “The Attorney General’s Office is autonomous, it does not obey personal interests, it does not fabricate culprits or crimes, nor does it generate agreements outside the Law”.
And on that occasion, the Supreme Court ordered the acquittal and freedom of Gertz Manero’s former sister-in-law, as well as her daughter, since they determined that The capital’s Prosecutor’s Office had not offered evidence that they were responsible for the alleged murder of their brother Federico.
In fact, The ministers found evidence of the fabrication of “criminal conduct” that, in the case of Alejandra Cuevas, daughter of Gertz Manero’s ex-sister-in-law, she was kept in prison for a year and a half.
What did the CDMX Prosecutor’s Office say in the end? Again, through a statement on networksindicated that they respected the decision of the Court and they swore that the investigations they carried out were “under the principle of the search for truth” and not to favor Gertz Manero, which was what was insinuated in the end.
They basically washed their hands that time.
3- Undetermined deaths
It’s not long since we told you here about the strange mystery that in the last year External deaths have increased that the capital authorities assure were “undetermined”.
Yes, according to INEGI data, These deaths represent 37.7% of deaths in CDMX; that is, almost 4 out of 10.
IMPORTANT NOTE: In Mexico, “external” deaths are classified as those that occur due to homicide, accident or suicide. That is, all violent or accidental deaths, not due to diseases.
Let’s continue… If you review the official statistics, you cannot determine what happened with the external deaths in CDMX, but it opens a lot of questions about transparency with security data in the capital.
One of the hypotheses as to why this occurs is that it could be a artificial reduction of homicide statistics in Mexico City that the authorities have boasted so much about. Or maybe it would be a false reduction in accidents or suicides.
And then another would be that it is part of the failures in the investigations of the CDMX Prosecutor’s Officeby Ernestina Godoy.
Just to give you an idea of how serious this is, while in CDMX 37% of deaths remain “undetermined,” the national average is just 6.8%.
4- Espionage on politicians
A few days ago, The New York Times revealed alleged acts of espionage by the CDMX Prosecutor’s Office against opposition politicians and even to Morena members themselves.
What do you believe? As has happened in other scandals mentioned here, they came out to say that this was not true, that the data included in the report by the United States newspaper was false: “He does not spy on political figures or any person”they indicated about the accusations to the capital’s Prosecutor’s Office.
That’s how it is; According to spokesperson Ulises Lara, the Prosecutor’s Office is only dedicated to “investigate for exclusively legal purposes” and even invited to check if there are official numbers or research folders in government books with the nomenclatures indicated by The New York Times.
And he added that any request for information that the capital’s Prosecutor’s Office makes to telephone companies is “in strict accordance with the law”…
