The bomb blast targeted the people who were participating in the memorial service. Two explosions rocked a procession near the Saheb al-Zaman mosque in the southern city of Kerman, killing 73 people and injuring 171, local officials said.
Major General Qasim Soleimani, the commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps, was killed in a US missile attack. The attack was organized outside the Baghdad airport on January 3, 2020. Iran had threatened to kill then US President Donald Trump in retaliation for Qasim’s killing.
Kerman’s deputy governor referred to it as a “terrorist attack”. Videos of several bodies lying in pieces on a road have gone viral online.
