9 convicted in Delhi riots cases: Court said – nuisance happened to damage the property of a community

A Delhi court on Tuesday convicted nine people in the 2020 Delhi riots case. The court said that the allegations leveled by the police against the accused are correct. The accused were part of an unruly mob. Whose aim was to damage the properties of the Hindu community. The case pertains to riots, arson and vandalism in Gokulpuri area.

The court noted that the police were constantly asking the accused to retreat. Even after this, the accused continued the ruckus. At present, the court has directed to send all the culprits to judicial custody. Also, both the parties have been given time till March 29 to file affidavits.

The court convicted these accused
Additional Sessions Judge Pulastya Pramachala convicted Mohd Shahnawaz alias Sanu, Mohd Shoaib, Shahrukh, Rashid alias Raja, Azad, Ashraf Ali, Parvez, Mohd Faisal and Rashid in cases of rioting, theft, arson.

Rekha Sharma filed a petition in the court
A woman named Rekha Sharma had filed a petition related to these riots in the court. Rekha had alleged that on 24-25 February 2022, the mob had attacked her house. The miscreants looted his house and set fire to the rooms on the first floor. This caused a lot of damage to his house.

During the hearing of the case, the court found the claims of the petitioner correct and convicted 9 accused. The police arrested the culprits on the basis of CCTV footage of the incident and statements of witnesses.
