Hyderabad: Sadarvalli Manikkam, a resident of Chillari village, Kamareddy district, Telangana, died 10 days ago. About 25 people from Ellaretti village in the same district left in a van on Sunday evening to attend the tenth day ceremony.
At the time, the van was speeding and collided head-on with an oncoming truck at the Hussein City Railway Gate. Nine people, including the truck driver, were killed in the crash. 14 people were injured.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the speeding of the van was the cause of the accident. The funeral of the 9 deceased was held yesterday. On learning of the accident, Prime Minister Modi expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims.
He announced yesterday that he would provide financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the victims and Rs 50,000 each to the injured. Similarly, the Telangana state government has announced Rs 2 lakh each for the families of the dead and Rs 50,000 each for the injured.
