Canadian playmaker Jamal Murray was fined $100,000 by the NBA for throwing more than one object at a referee, the association announced.
The incident occurred during the Denver Nuggets match, for which Murray plays, against the Minnesota Timberwolves, in the second match of the series that brings together the two teams in the Western Conference semi-finals, which ended with the latter winning 106-80 on Monday.
Murray threw several objects, including a thermal pack, at the referee while he was sitting on the bench after the competition was intense against the Timberwolves, who are considered the best defensively in the league this season.
Minnesota coach Chris Finch later described Murray’s actions, which were not directly noticed by the refereeing team, as “dangerous and unjustified.”
The Timberwolves took a 2-0 lead in the series after two wins at the home of the defending champion Nuggets, with the third and fourth games taking place in Minnesota.
Murray, 27, is averaging 21.2 points, 6.5 assists and 4.1 rebounds per game with the Nuggets this season.
