Manchester City said on Wednesday that “Spanish midfielder Rodri has suffered a ligament injury in his right knee and has travelled to his home country to consult a specialist doctor to assess the severity of the injury.”
The 28-year-old Spain international left the pitch in the first half of Manchester City’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal in the English Premier League on Sunday.
After Manchester City’s League Cup win over Watford on Tuesday, manager Pep Guardiola said the midfielder would be out for a “long time”.
Manchester City said in a statement: “Manchester City can confirm that Rodri has suffered a ligament injury to his right knee.
“The midfielder travelled to Spain for specialist medical advice this week after undergoing initial tests in Manchester. Assessments are ongoing to establish the full extent of the injury and prognosis.
“Everyone at the club wishes him a speedy recovery.”
Rodri, who was named player of the tournament at this year’s European Championship which he won with Spain, has been a key part of Guardiola’s success in leading the Premier League champions.
