Kolkata. The central government has accepted the demands of the doctors protesting against the Kolkata rape murder case. The government has said that it will form a committee regarding the Central Protection Act. The Union Health Ministry has assured to make every possible effort to ensure the safety of doctors. The government has appealed to all the protesting doctors to go on duty.
On the government’s appeal, the doctors’ organization FORDA said that a decision will be taken after talking to the representatives. The Health Ministry said on Saturday that in view of the concerns expressed by FORDA, IMA and RDA of government hospitals, the Health Ministry is forming a committee to ensure their safety. This committee will give details of all possible steps regarding the safety of health workers.
Individual representatives and state governments are also welcome to give suggestions to this committee. The ministry appeals to the protesting doctors to return to work in the public interest in view of the increasing cases of dengue and malaria. On the other hand, the representatives of all the associations were told that the government is well aware of the situation and is sensitive to their demands. It was observed that 26 states have already passed laws to protect health workers in their respective states.
In view of the concerns expressed by the associations, the ministry assured them of setting up a committee to suggest all such possible measures to ensure the safety of health professionals. Representatives of all stakeholders, including state governments, will be invited to share their suggestions with the committee.
