Albanian police, in cooperation with “Interpol”, have arrested the head of the gang responsible for the theft of the home of French striker Karim Benzema, the Real Madrid striker, which occurred in February 2019 during the match between Real Madrid and Barcelona in the King’s Cup semi-final.
It turned out that the head of the gang was Alfred Prodani, a senior official in the Albanian government, and had been the director of the country’s public water company for more than 9 years.
Prodani could be involved in the theft of 40 other homes in Spain since 2013, and several press reports confirmed that the evidence against him was “convincing” and “with no margin for error.”
Prodani’s arrest caused widespread reactions in Albania, as Kreshnik Sipahiu, leader and member of the “Red and Black” alliance, said: “He stole Benzema’s house and appointed him as a manager. If he robs Messi’s house, he will become a minister.”
Benzema’s house was robbed again in January 2022, and this time the thieves took advantage of the player’s presence in the Elche match, and during the meeting he missed the first penalty kick as a Real Madrid player.
