Kolkata. A massive blast took place on Saturday at the crossing of Blochman St and SN Banerjee Road in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal. Kolkata Police said that the blast took place around 1.30 pm. The police was informed about it at 1.45 pm. A person who used to work as a garbage picker was injured in the blast.
The injured man was taken to NRS and has suffered an injury on his right wrist. The area was cordoned off with security tape and then the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) team was called to the spot. The team is checking the bag and the surroundings at the spot. Traffic was allowed only after their approval. The cause of the blast is not clear at the moment.
Police said that the bomb squad team has reached the spot. The area around the suspicious sack is being investigated. Traffic has not been allowed on SN Banerjee Road (Kolkata). In the hospital, the injured person revealed his name as 58-year-old Bapi Das. His father’s name is Lieutenant Tarapada Das. He is a resident of Ichhapur. He has no profession. He used to roam around here and there.
Recently he started living on the footpath of SN Banerjee Road. The injured person is undergoing treatment. The police have not recorded his statement yet. They still need some more time. The police said that forensic investigation will be done in this entire case. On the other hand, it has been just a month since the rape-murder case of a female doctor that took place on August 8 at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College. Protests are going on in different places in the country regarding the incident.
