A monument to the first president of Bashkiria Murtaza Rakhimov will be erected in Ufa. This was announced on Monday, January 16, by the head of the republic, Radiy Khabirov.
“I would like to ask you to submit a proposal for [месту] installation of a monument to Murtaza Gubaidullovich [Рахимову]”, he stressed during the meeting.
People’s Artist of Russia Salavat Shcherbakov, the author of the monument to Prince Vladimir on Borovitskaya Square in Moscow and several monuments on Poklonnaya Hill, will be invited to work on the monument.
Khabirov assured that the erection of the monument is “an already made decision”.
Murtaza Rakhimov died on January 11, 2023 at the age of 88 after a long illness. He led Bashkortostan for 20 years, since 1990. Rakhimov resigned in 2010, after which he headed the board of the Ural Charitable Foundation.
The funeral of the first president of Bashkiria took place at the Muslim cemetery in Ufa on January 13. Politics was buried with honors.
The funeral ceremony was held at the Bashkortostan State Concert Hall in Ufa. Russian President Vladimir Putin came to say goodbye to Rakhimov.
Also, the farewell ceremony was attended by thousands of people, among whom were high-ranking officials, colleagues, friends and relatives of Rakhimov, as well as ordinary residents of Bashkortostan and guests of the republic.
Khabirov called Rakhimov “a great son of the Bashkir people who devoted himself entirely to serving the republic and Russia.”
