A woman was sentenced to five years and four months in prison for trying to sell his two-year-old daughter for $400 in Ecuadorthe State Attorney General’s Office has reported.
A court has declared the woman author of the crime of trafficking in persons in the degree of attempt after the Prosecutor’s Office exposed the case, which occurred in April 2022, when a citizen alert of an advertisement for the sale of a girl posted on Facebook by the now sentenced woman reached the Police.
The policemen arrested the woman. at a bus terminal in Santa Elena (on the Ecuadorian coast), where he had gone to supposedly deliver the girl.
At the time of arrest, The woman defended herself by saying that she had no financial solvency to support their daughter and that their partner had abandoned them several months ago.
The girl was rescued and handed over to her maternal grandmother.who indicated that he did not know the intentions of the condemned.
The Prosecutor’s Office backed up his story with the testimonies of the investigating agents, the medical experts and the social workers. Also with the images from the surveillance cameras and the extraction of information from the mobile phone of the now sentenced woman.
One month before the arrest of this woman, in March 2002, a couple from the same town tried to sell their children for $12,000. They were also arrested.
