On May 18, the media circulated the sad news about death of Kacper Tekielmountaineer, and privately husband of Justyna Kowalczyk-Tekiela and dad of almost 2-year-old Hug. The 38-year-old died during a lonely expedition in the Swiss Alps, he was carrying out an ambitious project to climb all 82 four-thousanders. Information about the tragedy was confirmed by Interia Sport Jerzy Natkański, director of the Foundation for the Support of Polish Mountaineering named after Jerzy Kukuczka.
“I can confirm the death. I know this from his fellow climbers and instructors. On Wednesday he lost contact, and on Thursday his body was found in the Jungfrau avalanche,” he said.

Two months after the death of Kacper Tekieli. Justyna Kowalczyk published a touching entry
“Two months,” the former ski runner and Olympic multi-medalist wrote next to Kacper Tekiele’s photo. Thus, she reminded that two months had indeed passed since the tragedy in the Alps. Kowalczyk-Tekieli added something else – a short quote from Victor Hug. “To die – it’s nothing, it’s terrible not to live” – she communicated.

She appreciates it very much tries to live onalthough it’s not easy. In a funeral orationlater shared on the web, Justyna Kowalczyk-Tekieli mentioned her husband and said that she had the opportunity to say goodbye to him.
“I appreciate being able to say goodbye to him. Not every climber’s wife has such an opportunity. Leaving Him and closing the door behind me forever is the hardest thing that has happened to me in my life. We did not run away from the subject of death. These were difficult conversations, but sincere and conscious. Hugo appeared in the world because my beloved husband was sure that I would not only be able to cope with any situation, but also compensate for the loss as much as possible, “she explained.
She also made an important promise. “I will surely not disappoint him. I will do everything to raise Hugotek into such a wonderful man as Kacper was. That our boy would give someone as much happiness as I got. Kacper established a strong position in my head and heart. I left with a vengeance. I tore out all the flights, I scarred myself terribly, but the position is holding. AND withstand the avalanche of sadness. Hugotek and I will catch the shovels and clear this avalanche from rubble” – she declared and added:
We will live as Kacper taught us. Full. We will travel the world and conquer the peaks. We will be greedy for every minute, like Him. (…) I admit he’s right: life is too short to worry about crap. My perspective has completely changed.
