Amid renewed escalation in Gaza, and with Egyptian mediation faltering to establish a truce between the Palestinian factions and Israel, the Islamic Jihad Movement announced the killing of the leader of the Al-Quds Brigades, (the armed wing of the movement), Ahmed Abu Daqqa, after targeting his home in Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip.
Al-Arabiya/Al-Hadath correspondent reported that Abu Daqqa was killed and 3 others were wounded, when an Israeli raid targeted his house today, Thursday, in the town of Bani Suhaila in Khan Yunis.
He also made it clear that Abu Daqqa was the deputy of Ali Ghali, commander of the missile unit in the Al-Quds Brigades, who was assassinated yesterday.
For his part, the Israeli Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, revealed that this latest targeting in a series of assassinations carried out over the past two days, was carried out in cooperation with the Shin Bet.
166 goals
Simultaneously, the Israeli army announced the bombing of 166 targets belonging to the Islamic Jihad Movement during the operation it launched since last Tuesday, which is called “The Defensive Arrow”.
While the Palestinian factions fired 547 rockets and missiles towards Israeli territory, 394 of them crossed the borders, while 124 landed in the Strip.
Rocket barrages from Gaza towards the settlements
While the Israeli Iron Dome system intercepted 175 missiles.
This assassination comes to confirm Israel’s adherence to the policy of assassinations, despite the regional efforts, especially the Egyptian one, for calm.
While the Islamic Jihad movement vowed that these assassinations would not go unnoticed, stressing in turn its adherence to its terms of the cease-fire, foremost of which is stopping the assassinations, and handing over the body of the former prisoner Adnan Khader, who died in Israeli prisons last week, to his family, after 3 months of hunger strike.
The escalation also comes with the arrival of an Egyptian security delegation to Tel Aviv to seek mediation between the two parties for a cease-fire, after earlier today a delegation from “Jihad” also arrived in Cairo.
Since last Tuesday, the situation has exploded between the Peace Brigades and the Israeli forces in Gaza, following the assassination of a number of Palestinian leaders, which has killed about 25 people so far, according to the Ministry of Health in the densely populated strip.
