WABetaInfo revealed that the WhatsApp application is adding a new feature through which you can completely hide your phone number in conversations, whether individual or group, which gives more privacy to users.
This comes, after a new addition appeared in the beta version of the application that allows the creation of a username, and it is expected that the feature will be launched in a future update of the messaging application.
Currently, users are allowed to search for other people by their phone number on the messaging app, but in the future, the app will search for users on their “username” instead of their phone number.
And the new beta version showed that the feature will be available by going to the profile page in the settings menu, then entering the application profile, which will provide the option to set up a username.
Many messaging applications such as Telegram, or even Meta applications such as Messenger, allow you to specify your account with a username.
It is important to note that WhatsApp has not yet confirmed that it will be adding usernames. If you introduce this feature, it is uncertain whether users will be able to hide their phone numbers and only display their usernames instead.
