The UAE national teams continued their distinguished results in the first Gulf Youth Games “Emirates 2024”, where they recorded a record number of medals in one day, on the 12th day, which witnessed the crowning of UAE champions and heroines with 37 new medals, a number that has not been recorded since the start of the tournament’s competitions in 16 current. The UAE strengthened its lead in the overall standings of the tournament with 231 medals, including 73 gold.
It was remarkable for the brilliance of the karate team, which won 18 medals, including five gold medals that came in the “Individual Kumite” category for women, through Malak Al-Hajj in the under-48 kg weight, Khadija Al-Jasmi in the under-53 kg weight, Mahra Al-Balushi in the under-59 kg weight, and Shamma Al-Ketbi. In the under 66 kg category, and in the “Individual Kumite” category for youth, Rashid Salem won the gold in the under 61 kg weight category.
The judo team appeared strongly at the start of the competitions, the day before yesterday, with four medals, including Saif Al Hammadi’s gold in the under-60 kg weight. The competitions will be held in the “Mubadala Arena” hall in Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi. The game also witnessed the Saudi team excelling with three medals, including two gold, and Kuwait with four medals, including one gold. The UAE won two medals (gold and silver) in cycling, which concluded its competitions the day before yesterday, on the cycling track on Al Hudayriat Island in Abu Dhabi.
The team’s cyclist, Harib Khamis, won gold in the individual youth time trial race, and his teammate Khaled Al Nuaimi won second place and a silver medal, while Bahraini Mahdi Hassan Jawad won the bronze.
The bow and arrow team shined with three gold medals in the competitions held at the Sharjah Police Club, all of which came in the teams, waiting for the team’s stars to climb the podiums in the individual and mixed competitions. In swimming, the team won 10 medals, including one gold, five silver, and four bronze, and came in fifth place in the swimming medal standings, while Qatar came in first place with 11 medals, including five gold. In other notable results, the UAE team won silver in the “Electronic Games” after losing in the final to the gold-winning Saudi team, while the Kuwaiti team came in third place. The UAE golf team is close to the gold medal, after maintaining the top spot at the end of the second round, which was held the day before yesterday at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club.
