Former Juventus and Atalanta player Simone Muratori announced his permanent retirement from football despite reaching the age of 26 due to suffering from a serious illness.
The player published a statement through his accounts on social media platforms, in which he said: “Three years have passed since that day (October 10, 2021), and the news was surprising, and it changed my life and the lives of those around me after I learned that I had the disease. Moments of thought, questions, and anger.”
He added: “I did not shed a single tear. I always tried to appear strong in the eyes of others, from the day I heard the news until the night of the operation, in the room with my mother, the strongest woman I knew. Then I burst into tears like a child, for fear that I would not wake up again or that I would wake up again.” And I would be another person. It was days, weeks, months, years of suffering.”
He continued: “I had to learn again how to speak correctly, walk, run, write, read, count, as if I had returned to childhood and started over. There were days when I found it difficult to get out of bed even though I was feeling better. Today.” I put a point in my career as a player. I tried until the end to come back. I shed tears and sweat, but I was no longer the same. I realized that at least I was lucky because I was healed and that I was fine. I had the opportunity to play with exceptional and prominent players, and this is something that will never happen again. Forget it, I thank Juventus, Atalanta and Tondela for being by my side.”
It is noteworthy that Muratori won the Italian League twice and the Italian Cup once with Juventus.
