Volleyball players, however, do not complain about the pitch, the sound system also works well. Before the match between Poland and Slovenia, the anthems of both countries flowed from the loudspeakers. “Dąbrowski’s Mazurka” was played first. However, the melody ended after the first verse and chorus.
We noticed this and felt that the anthem ended a little too soon. But we didn’t quite know what to do: whether to keep singing or stop. But what will we do? We’ll see how it goes in the next meetings

Will the organizers improve? “We’re used to singing longer”
Volleyball players looked at each other, but in the end decided not to sing further. Polish fans were confused. They appeared in a large group in the hall in Ghent and some of them had even started singing the second verse of the national anthem. Ultimately, however, there was no time for further singing, because the organizers played the Slovenian anthem after a while.
We were a little surprised, because we are used to singing the national anthem for a long time. I don’t know if it was due to the organizer’s ignorance? Maybe it will change, we don’t know how it will be in the next game
~ says Joanna Wołosz, captain and quarterback of the Polish national team.
Two verses of the national anthem are standard. Footballers and volleyball players know this
Two verses are already a standard when playing or playing “Mazurka Dąbrowski” in most sports arenas. For several years, singing two verses has been adopted, among others, before football or volleyball matches. The two-stanza recording of “Mazurka Dąbrowski” is also in the database of the International Olympic Committee.
The most important thing is that the organizers’ slip-up with the anthem did not knock the Polish volleyball players out of the rhythm. “White-Red” started the tournament with a 3-0 victory. Thus, they joined other strong teams of Group A – Belgium defeated Hungary in the same size, and Serbia defeated Ukraine. The next match of the Polish team will be played on Sunday against the Hungarian team. From the six-team group, the top four will advance to the next phase of the tournament, held in Brussels.
