McDonald’s is the best-known restaurant franchise in the world. Who has not tried, at least once in their life, their classic BigMac? According to a Unir study with data from 2021, McDonald’s is present in 119 countries with a total of 40,031 restaurants open. In Spain there are 557, making it the thirteenth country with the most stores dedicated to the famous hamburger brand.
We think we know almost everything about McDonald’s, although their restaurants modify their menu and even their aesthetics depending on the market in which they operate. It is not the same to eat in a place located in Madrid than in one in Tokyo.
When we travel abroad, we Spaniards are surprised by some of the products that we can find in McDonald’s in other countries. This is what has happened to Joe Burger, a Valencian who succeeds on social networks trying food from many countries. In fact, in his profiles he presents himself as a “professional eater and abuser of buffets.” Jorge, his real name, left a salary of 3,000 euros per month in the Police to become “Spain’s greatest expert on hamburgers.” And success in this adventure has accompanied him by adding thousands of followers on all his official channels.
This Tuesday he posted a video on his TikTok account after going to a McDonald’s in the Dominican Republic. In it. Joe was surprised to find that the classic Happy Meal for children does not have a toy inside. “Here’s a banana,” he points out.
He has also been surprised by how small the hamburgers are in restaurants in this country and the poor quality of the ingredients such as meat or lettuce. “The meat doesn’t taste much like meat and the bread is dry,” he says, disappointed. What Joe has loved is the McFlurry with peanuts. “Yummy,” he says as he dunks his spoon into the bowl.
The video, which is barely two minutes long, has already gained more than 300,000 views in just 24 hours.
