Al Mujab said that the new court bench has been set up with the aim of giving prompt judgments in criminal cases dealing with Hajj and Umrah prosecution. It deals with cases that do not affect national security or the sanctity of the holy place by tarnishing the sanctity of Hajj and Umrah. Al Mujab said that crime against Hajj and Umrah pilgrims should be taken very seriously. He further opined that exploitation of religious practices or holy places is a serious offense and should be considered as cases where public prosecution should impose the harshest punishments against the accused.

He said that the opening of the new court shows the great care and concern shown by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman towards Hajj and Umrah pilgrims, holy places and their visitors. Under the Hajj and Umrah prosecution, cases related to the rituals associated with these two pilgrimages and the judicial protection of visitors to the Grand Mosque are considered.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia expects the number of Umrah pilgrims to reach 9 million by the end of Ramadan from last July, officials said. Hajj, one of the five pillars of Islam, will be held at the end of June this year. It is a religious law that Muslims who are physically and financially able to perform Hajj at least once in their lifetime.
