The late German football legend, Franz Beckenbauer, will be honored by making a statue of him in front of the Allianz Arena, the home of the German team Bayern Munich, according to the Kurt Landauer Foundation said on Sunday.
Beckenbauer, who died on January 7, will be depicted in bronze in an elegant pose as the captain of a match.
The Kurt Landauer Foundation was also responsible for creating a statue of Gerd Müller, which was also placed in the stadium itself, and the Foundation expects the work of Beckenbauer’s statue to take approximately 18 months, according to its previous experience.
Christian Kroll of the Kurt Landauer Foundation said: “The elegant captain Franz and his friend Gerd Müller will cast a positive shadow over the present day, and awareness of the history of our great club will be passed on to future generations.”
Beckenbauer is considered one of the most prominent football legends in Germany, as he won many titles with Bayern and the German national team, and later became president of the Bavarian club.
After winning the World Cup in 1974 as a player, Beckenbauer also led the German national team to win the World Cup in 1990 as a technical director, noting that he contributed to granting Germany the hosting of the competition in 2006.
