The day before yesterday, the Sharjah and Al-Nasr teams opened their journey in the first group competitions of the “Union Open Cup” basketball competition, with two well-deserved victories, for “Al-Malik” at the expense of Al-Wasl with a score of (80-58) in the Al-Ahly Youth Hall, and for “Al-Ameed” over Al-Bataeh account (93-87) in the Sharjah Club hall.
To ensure victory, Sharjah needed its players to have the absolute advantage, with the results of the first and third quarters (24-11 and 20-5), while Al Wasl was content with gaining a modest advantage in the second and fourth quarters (21-20 and 21-16), which was not enough to return to the match.
Al-Bataeh missed the opportunity to finish the first quarter ahead (28-20) and emerge tied in the second quarter (22-22), after Al-Nasr players regained the initiative, narrowed the gap and decided the match in their favor in the third and fourth quarters (28-19 and 23-18).
The Federation Cup will be held in its preliminary round in a group league system distributed according to geographical regions, so that the first group includes the Dubai and Sharjah clubs represented by (Shabab Al-Ahly, Al-Wasl, Al-Nasr, Al-Bataeh, and Al-Sharjah), while the second group includes Abu Dhabi clubs (Al-Wahda, Al-Jazira, and Al-Dhafra). The preliminary results result in a ranking of the eight teams based on the points scored, and all of them qualify for the quarter-finals, in which the leader will meet the eighth-placed team, the runner-up will face the seventh-placed team, the third will meet the sixth-placed team, and the fourth will meet the fifth-placed team.
