The 28-year-old woman was returning to Visakhapatnam with her husband when she went into labor on the train. Geetham Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMSR) House Surgeon Dr. K Swathi Reddy was also traveling in the same train.
At around 3:30 in the morning, the woman’s husband went to the doctor and informed that labor pains had started. And without thinking for a second, Swati immediately came to them. In an interview to the national media, Dr. Swati said that the delivery took place in the third AC compartment in which they were travelling.

Swati, a final year medical student, is handling a delivery for the first time. So there was all the worry of it. The doctor intervened at the right time and the mother and baby were saved. The woman gave birth to the baby at 5.35 am in the running train.
‘It was my first birth on my own so I was very worried. So far, only assisting the senior doctors in the hospital has been done. For the first 45 minutes the baby didn’t come out and I was scared. The doctor told the media that I was at peace when the baby started coming out. Then at the next station, Anakappally, the police arranged an ambulance for the woman and the child and shifted them to the NTR Government Hospital.
