Apple, Microsoft, and Google are working together to sign-in without the need for a password on smartphones, desktops, and web browsers. This password-free sign-in will be committed to the FIDO Alliance, the World Wide Web Consortium. The three companies have released a joint statement on their plans. The companies said they would soon introduce password-free authentication on a number of platforms such as iOS, Android mobile devices, Safari, Chrome, Edge browsers, Windows and Mac OS desktops.

Apple said in the statement that there are many security headaches associated with password authentication alone.
