New Delhi: Employees Provident Fund (EPFO) has announced that Aadhaar card will no longer be accepted as proof of date of birth.
According to the circular issued on January 16, following the order of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), it has been decided that the Aadhaar card will no longer be accepted as a date of birth identification.
Also, EPFO has announced that Aadhaar will be removed from the list of documents for correction of date of birth.
In a circular issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India on December 22, 2023, “Aadhaar number can be used to identify an individual subject to authentication. But it cannot be considered as proof of date of birth.
In the circular, the UIDAI had pointed out that several High Courts in their orders have pointed out that Aadhaar is not a reliable and valid source of date of birth.
Various documents such as birth certificate issued by the Registrar of Births and Deaths, mark sheet issued by the government or recognized universities, PAN card etc. are currently used as valid documents for date of birth.
