New Delhi: After a long delay, the Delhi Mayoral election was held today (February 22). Aam Aadmi Party candidate Shelly Oberoi was elected as the Mayor. Aam Aadmi Party candidate Shelly Oberoi got 150 votes. BJP candidate Rekha Gupta got 116 votes. After this Shelly Oberoi of Aam Aadmi Party was announced as the new Mayor of Delhi Corporation.
Congratulating Shelly Oberoi, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia posted the greeting saying, “Goons lost, people won.” Following Manish Sisodia’s tweet, Aam Aadmi Party convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted in Hindi, “Today in Delhi Corporation, people have defeated the hooligans. Congratulations to the people of Delhi,” tagging Mayor Oberoi Shelley.
Who is this Shelley Oberoi? – Shelley Oberoi, a young woman who has been elected as the Mayor of Delhi, has won the 86th Ward of the Delhi Corporation. Shelly Oberoi, 39, is also a Life Member of the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICA).
Has a strong academic background. Miss Kamla was a recipient of the Queen’s Award for academic excellence during her undergraduate studies in college. He did his Masters from Himachal Pradesh University. He later received his PhD in Philosophy from the School of Management Studies, Indira Gandhi Open University, Delhi. He has experience working as a professor in Delhi University. Having such an educational background, he joined the Aam Aadmi Party in 2013. In this case, he is now the Mayor of Delhi Corporation.
Mayoral Election and Case: Elections were held last December for a total of 250 seats in the Delhi Corporation. Out of this, Aam Aadmi Party won 134 seats and won majority. BJP came second with 104 seats. In this case, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena appointed 10 nominated members before the mayoral election. The Aam Aadmi Party accused the BJP of trying to take over the Delhi Corporation through this.
As a result, the mayoral election was postponed 3 times in the last 2 months due to the clash between Aam Aadmi Party and BJP members in the Parliament meeting. Aam Aadmi Party filed a case in the Supreme Court regarding the Delhi Mayoral election. In the order issued by the Supreme Court on February 18 in this case, “nominated members cannot vote in the mayoral election. After the election of the mayor, the deputy mayor should be selected in a meeting chaired by him,” it said. After the verdict came in their favor, the governor also agreed to the government recommending the election date to the governor. Accordingly, the election was held today. Aam Aadmi Party candidate Shelly Oberoi has won.
